My Journey:
Helping Kids Love Spanish
I’m Raquel Pérez, born and raised in Venezuela. After earning my degree in Business Administration, I moved to the United States. I got married, and then my husband and I raised our two boys between two languages and cultures. This experience made me realize the incredible power of being bilingual, and I became passionate about helping others achieve the same success.
Since founding Spanish Room in 2006, I’ve spent over 14 years teaching Spanish in private schools, homeschool co-ops, and family settings across the Chicagoland area. I also had the privilege of teaching High School Spanish at TOCA Academy.
I didn’t want my students to sit through a class and forget what they had learned. My goal has always been for Spanish to become a natural part of their lives—something they can use and enjoy daily. That’s why I created Spanish Room, a fun and immersive way to teach kids Spanish.
For me, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing my students' progress. From the first lessons, they experience the joy of communication and realize that learning a new language is more straightforward than they imagined. Their parents, dedicated to giving them a valuable tool for the future, watch as their children fall in love with the process—so much so that they want to learn more every day.
One of my most rewarding moments was hearing from the parents of two siblings who have been learning with me for years. After a recent trip to South America, they were amazed to see their kids communicating effortlessly in Spanish. Moments like these testify to how transformative learning a language can be.
Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand that learning a new language is more than just communication. It strengthens cognitive skills, builds confidence, and helps kids uniquely connect with the world.
I would love to be part of your child’s language journey. Let’s make this an exciting adventure together!
